I met Siobhan last June at Arizona Dreamin' 2011.
We became fast friends and I just love her!
She has a new book and I want to introduce both of them to you.

Hello Siobhan, I'm glad you were able to stop by for a few minutes to discuss HER DEVOTED VAMPIRE. I'm really excited to catch up with Frederick and Bridgette. But first, I'd like to talk a little about you.

Do you prefer Cats or Dogs? Cats, definitely cats. The best dogs are the skulls I have around the house. ;) Ha! I'll make sure to keep Gus safely away from your house...lol :)

Okay, let's talk books. What do you do when you're not writing? I actually do research in the field of paleontology. My specialty is fossil canids (dogs, wolves, foxes, and coyotes) and I often spend some time identifying the teeth for other paleontologists (see why I like dead dogs?). ;) Very cool! And yes, I understand now. No offense, but I'm going to still keep an eye on you around Gus. *wink*

When did you write your first story? I wrote my first story in 6th grade for a teacher who said we could make a book. It was called “The Phoenix and the Girl.” Guess what it was about? ;) I even got to illustrate it. The Phoenix was actually a gigantic drawing of a sparrow that I traced from somewhere and I don’t remember what I used for the “girl”. I think I have copy of it around here somewhere. That's awesome. You really should dig it out.

What genre do you prefer to read? My first love was science-fiction/fantasy and my library is full of my favorites. I’ve written several stories in that genre. But after my husband gave me a paranormal romance, which combines romance and sci-fi/fantasy, I was a goner. ;) HA! The best of both worlds. Love it!

Okay, so please, please, please tell the people about your awesome new book.

The story of Bridget Shanahan and Fredrick MacGregor came about when I wondered what it would be liked to be kidnapped by a really sexy guy, when he thought he was rescuing me. How would I react? How would he react to my hostility? Her Devoted Vampire came from those questions.

Here is the blurb:

Bridget doesn't believe in vampires or werewolves, but that doesn't stop one from kidnapping her.

BRIDGET SHANAHAN’S life seems bleak and boring until she gets mugged and abducted from her favorite coffee shop by the sexiest man she’s ever met. Unfortunately, he’s a lunatic who believes he’s some kind of vampire savior surrounded by a security force of werewolves and he’s determined to keep her.

FREDRICK MACGREGOR has been having visions of this woman in danger for the last six months, a woman he must protect because she’s the Avatar of the Goddess. However, when he brings her home, she doesn’t believe he's a vampire or that she is the Avatar, and she definitely doesn't want to stay. But the sense of danger persists and he'll do anything to keep her safe, even if it means risking the loss of the only woman who makes his endless life bearable again.

LOVE THAT!

Writer Wednesday: I hate sick kids!

It's been one of those days! We all have them. We all dread them. And yet, when we have a calendar full of better things to do, life intervenes.

As I typed the words "I hate sick kids" into my facebook status, I hit the backspace button and opened up blogger. Those four little words, typed in that order, reminded me of the age old problem. Writing is all about wording and commas and getting the point across in the way the author intended.

No, I do not hate sick kids. I do, however, hate when my kids are sick. "Mom, I threw up all over my bed," whispered by my 8yo son at 2:30 in the morning are words I most certainly hate. Actually, I loathe them! After returning to bed at 3:30, after disinfecting his bedroom, I never got back into a nice, deep sleep.

So call it insanity, insomnia, or blathering idiocy, I needed rant a bit, and clarify myself...to myself.

Rest assured, I do not hate sick kids. In fact, I love my children always--even when they're sick. What I do hate is the stomach bug currently plaguing my family!

Anybody got the name of a good exterminator?

On a better note: I was able to contribute 1500 words to my current WIP today! Favorite line:
“I’m not hard. I mean, it’s not hard.” He shook his head and felt heat rise in his cheeks at her giggle. “No, thanks. I can handle it.”

Writer Wednesday: You inspire me ... more than just a catchphrase

Inspiration strikes me all the time in many different forms; little things my kids say, crazy thoughts that run through my brain, dreams, and *shudders* real life.

The biggest inspiration for Fade to Black would have to be the nearly 10 years I spent living, eating, breathing, and editing (videotape, not copy) my way through life in the news industry. In It To Win It combined that experience with my love for baseball and the small, rural town of Salina, Utah.

I’ve heard from readers that the newsroom ‘lingo’ in the books is very realistic. Yeah, well, you can thank my editor that you understand it. During the editing process she constantly reminded me that PIO (public information officer)—and other terms—are not common vernacular.

Fade to Black took a little over a year to write. In It To Win It took—from first word to publication—approximately eight months.

Writing, for me, is the best part of being an author. Editing, the worst!

Next week, I’ll talk about how I approach the editing process…
