Six Sentence Sunday (7/22) ~ Out of Left Field

Welcome back, Sixers!

Today's Six once again come from my brand new release
(Deadlines & Diamonds, #3)

In this segment, Team Doc, Frankie Holden is confronting
Matthias Xavier about his shoulder.

“I can’t fix stupid.”
He was about ready to tell her where she could stick her attitude when she sighed.
“I am here to help you, Xavier. If you have an issue with your shoulder, you know as well as I do it needs to be addressed. But if you’re too stupid to admit it, then I guess there’s nothing I can do about it.”
“Like I said, I’m fine.”

Celebrating Sexy Seventeen

WooHoo!
It's July 17th and I'm feeling like a PARTY!

This celebration is chock FULL of great 17's!

Enjoy!

Did you know...

Seventeen is the least random number?

The band Smashing Pumpkins has a song that is 17 seconds long. It has no vocals, but comes with a poem which, when read at a standard speed will finish at the end of the song?

The fear of the number 17 is called 'heptadecaphobia' or 'heptakaidekaphobia'?

The middle verse in the New Testament is Acts 17:17?

How about...

King Tutankhamen was wrapped in 17 cloths?

Sjutton (17) is also a swear word in Swedish. It's used in phrases like Sjutton ocks! (Blast it!) or Fy sjutton! (Disgusting!)?

There are 17 stars circling the flying eagle on the gold US one dollar coin?

Seventeen bones make up the human spinal column; 12 thoracic and 5 lumbar?

17 of the 20 largest hotels in the world are located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Some tidbits from the world of baseball about the number 17:

Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean wore 17 when he pitched for the Saint Louis Cardinals from 1930-1937. His 17 jersey number was the first 17 retired by a MLB team.

There have only been 17 perfect games thrown in baseball history, making it one of the rarest accomplishments in the game.

The shape of home plate changed from a twelve-inch square to a five-sided figure seventeen inches wide.

OUT OF LEFT FIELD's Matthias Xavier
also wears 17 between his shoulder blades.

Excerpt: Prayers did come true apparently. Xavier stood in left field, praying the ball wouldn’t come his way. Top of the ninth and the thing had avoided him like he had the plague or some shit.
Even better, there was an out. Two more and he could be done acting like he was a-okay.The runner on third led off.The crack of the bat made X’s blood curdle.
The bastard runner tagged up on third and headed home.
Instinct took over. Xavier eyed the ball coming directly at him. He watched it fall from the sky like manna from heaven to land with a solid thump in his glove. Without thought, he cocked his arm back and sent the ball on a one-way ticket home.
His shoulder hollered.
So did he.

Can you believe there are only 317 days until Arizona Dreamin' 2013,
Arizona's ONLY Romance Reader Event?
Early bird ticket prices expire on July 31st, 2012.

It takes 17 muscles to produce a smile.

Seventeen is oh, so, super sexy because...
today, July 17th, a "few" years ago
I was born.

I am Morgan Kearns
bestselling author of
contemporary romance,
starring sexy baseball players.

Six Sentence Sunday (7/15) ~ Out of Left Field

Welcome back, Sixers!

Today's Six comes from my newest release
(Deadlines & Diamonds, #3)

Baseball MVP, Matthias Xavier has an injured shoulder
and seems to think hiding it is the best solution.
Team Doc, Frankie Holden confronts him.

“A little bird mentioned you might need to talk to me.”

“Did this damn big stool pigeon look anything like Pierce?”

She rolled her eyes. “He only mentioned your shoulder might be bothering you. Is it?”

“I’m fine.”

Six Sentence Sunday (7/8) ~ Out of Left Field

Welcome Sixers!
Today's Six comes from my brand new release
(Deadlines & Diamonds, #3)

These are the very first six sentences of the novel...
Snap, crackle, pop.
Matthias Xavier enjoyed that particular combination of sound when it came from a cereal bowl, but coming from his shoulder … not so much.
He ground his teeth, closed his eyes, and pushed the weight bar toward the sky. Focusing on the burn in his pecs, he relished the subtle pain telling him the exercise accomplished something. The pain in his shoulder accomplished nothing, except an assload of ache he’d sure as hell pay for tonight.
He knew he wouldn’t be able to hide his weakness for much longer, but exposing himself meant … well, exposing himself.

5 STARS for OUT OF LEFT FIELD

Thanks to Author Linda Boulanger for this awesome review!

"Often books in a series seem to lose momentum and, honestly, I didn't think Morgan Kearns could top the first two books in the Deadlines & Diamonds Series. I was wrong. This book picked up the life of one of the lesser characters from In It To Win It and told his story in a way that made Out of Left Field lunge to the top of my favorites list. This story literally came to life in the palm of my hand and the characters worked their way into my heart. Before I was done (actually not long after I started), I found myself truly caring about what happened in their lives. I cried real tears as I read the final chapter, in part because I knew I was coming to the end of the story for characters who had become my friends. I love Morgan Kearns' writing style. Her stories are written with the right amount of ups and downs, conflict and resolution, ending in the happy ever after that is a must for me. If that's the kind of book you like, you'll find Out of Left Field at the top of your favorites list in a hurry. I highly recommend this book." ~Linda Boulanger via Amazon

Announcing the release of OUT OF LEFT FIELD

While writing IN IT TO WIN IT

I discovered Grayson Pierce needed a friend,
a class-A jerk, a simple placeholder to give Jane a hard time.

Enter Xavier.

The guy didn't even have a first name.

Then one day, this came in from a reviewer:
"However, Xavier, what a nice piece of raw meat, he is Grayson's teammate and needs his own story A.S.A.P."
Since a writer's mind never stops, I began to wonder.
Why was Xavier such a jerk?
And what the hell was his first name?!

*drum roll please*

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to introduce

Matthias Xavier III

Back Cover Text:
Strike One
Xavier is a jerk with a capital A.S.S. and he offers no apologies. If a woman is willing to give, he’ll gladly take, walking away without a backward glance. He’s not looking for commitment and the only diamond he’s interested in has three bases and a home plate.
Strike Two
Dr. Frances Holden knows all about fixing broken bones and taming arrogant athletes. As the Team Doctor for the Las Vegas Rockets she deals with stubborn ballplayers every day. But nobody is more stubborn than Left Fielder, Matthias Xavier III.
Strike Three
When a shoulder injury takes Xavier out of the game, it’s Frankie’s job to get him back on the diamond. His rehab turns out to be more than either of them bargained for, and when she promises to help him face his scarred past, neither of them are prepared for the fireworks that come Out of Left Field and threaten to scorch them both.

Hoppy Easter Blog Tour (April 6th - 8th)

Thanks to The BlogHopSpot for hosting this hop!

Spring comes with three B's;

Baskets
Bunnies

BASEBALL!

Did you know that the first baseball game ever played
in the United States took place in 1791?
Don't feel bad, I didn't either.
It took place in Pittsfield, Massachutes.
However it wasn't until 1845 that the first team
(the New York Knickerbockers) was formed.

Baseball has grown and now is played all over the country
--all over the world.
If I had to pick a favorite team, I would go with
my Arizona Diamondbacks!

When the team came to Arizona in 1998,
I was working for one of the local television stations
and it was huge news!
Opening day we had crews all over the stadium,
delivering live-shots, and bringing the experience home
to those not lucky enough to be sitting in the seats.
And when they took the World Series in 2001...
I watched every pitch!
IN IT TO WIN IT is my contemporary romance.

Take one saucy sportscaster,
add baseball’s notorious bad-boy,
throw in fifteen years of frenzied feelings
and an exclusive interview with strings attached ...
and you get a reunion that’s sure

to get knocked out of the park!
Coming in June, Book 3 in the Deadlines & Diamonds series.

Writer Wednesday: I hate sick kids!

It's been one of those days! We all have them. We all dread them. And yet, when we have a calendar full of better things to do, life intervenes.

As I typed the words "I hate sick kids" into my facebook status, I hit the backspace button and opened up blogger. Those four little words, typed in that order, reminded me of the age old problem. Writing is all about wording and commas and getting the point across in the way the author intended.

No, I do not hate sick kids. I do, however, hate when my kids are sick. "Mom, I threw up all over my bed," whispered by my 8yo son at 2:30 in the morning are words I most certainly hate. Actually, I loathe them! After returning to bed at 3:30, after disinfecting his bedroom, I never got back into a nice, deep sleep.

So call it insanity, insomnia, or blathering idiocy, I needed rant a bit, and clarify myself...to myself.

Rest assured, I do not hate sick kids. In fact, I love my children always--even when they're sick. What I do hate is the stomach bug currently plaguing my family!

Anybody got the name of a good exterminator?

On a better note: I was able to contribute 1500 words to my current WIP today! Favorite line:
“I’m not hard. I mean, it’s not hard.” He shook his head and felt heat rise in his cheeks at her giggle. “No, thanks. I can handle it.”
